Rip: Best Booster to Open by Budget
Where your money opens the most value right now. The best way into every set at your budget: price per pack for every set we track, and for sets with published pull rates, what their hits are worth per pack at today's market.
Same packs, different price. A set's booster packs have the same published odds in every box or bundle (Magic: the same booster type), so we find the one with the cheapest packs. Return = rip value ÷ that price per pack.

How we calculate this
Rip value per pack is the hits you'd expect from one pack: each rarity's published pull rate × today's average TCGplayer market price for cards of that rarity, added up. Hits only — commons, uncommons and reverse holos aren't counted. Magic uses Wizards of the Coast's published odds; games without official odds use the largest published community samples (source on each set's page). A sample under 1,000 opened packs is tagged Small Sample and ranked after the rest.
Price per pack is the product's price (AVA's price when we stock it, otherwise TCGplayer market) ÷ the booster packs inside it, from the product's listed contents. A product counts when we stock it or it has at least 3 TCGplayer listings.
Return is rip value per pack (cards at TCGplayer prices, before selling fees) ÷ price per pack. After typical selling costs (about 37% all-in), a Return is worth about 0.63 of itself: 116% is about 73%. The EV Calculator's Walk-Away is what's left after fees. 100% means the hits are worth about what the packs cost at that price. It's an average over many packs — any one pack can land far above or below it. For fun and information, not financial advice. AVA buys and sells these products.
